Our society is based on the rule of law, so why is it that many people don't understand that by compartmentalizing laws we start down the slippery slope that degenerates our society into anarchy?

A significant portion of our society has decided that the transportation laws do not apply to them whenever it suits them. An example is the speed limit, people tell themselves things like "Everybody does it." "It's okay to go 5 mph over the limit." "I'm late for..." or simply "The laws is wrong." Unfortunately, all of these are a very conceited viewpoint. What they actually are saying is that I'm more important than anyone else.

Speeding is the 2nd leading cause of traffic fatalities. Yet people get this mentality that it won't happen to them or they are better drivers than those involved in traffic crashes. The problem is those that did die in a traffic crash thought the same thing. A crash doesn't have to happen because of our driving. But speeding reduces our reaction time and the vehicle's maneuverability (the vehicle might flip if I try to turn too sharply, etc.).

People rationalize that's it's okay to break the law. That it isn't an 'important' law and can be ignored. But unless your values and belief system center around murder and suicide then you are contradicting your own beliefs.

If you consider yourself to be Christian then you deny your own faith in God and that the Bible is His holy word when you speed. We are to place our trust in Him including those times when we think we need to speed. Also you should read 1 Peter 2:13-17 as Peter speaks about obeying the laws of men for God desires that we be an example.

If you don't believe in God or Allah or whomever, if you believe that there is only the here and now then I would think that you would definitely want to be careful about how you drive. If you believe that once you are dead that it's all over then I would be careful not to end up in a fatal wreck.

Now granted there is no such thing as a safe speed. A wreck can happen at any speed and even slower speeds can be devastating. But there are such things as SAFER speeds! It's a matter of deciding what speed we are willing to risk. Now are government is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. What this means is that the government should be setting what should be the safer speed limits, lower and upper. When we disregard these limits we greatly increase the danger to everyone including ourselves.

Yesterday I spoke with a gentleman who professed to being a believer. I was talking to him about his speeding and his comment was that "everybody does it." This was a rather disturbing comment to me. As believers are our values dictated by God or are we listening to the world? Are we but mere dust in the wind to be blown about in whatever direction the current climate blows? I believe God asks us to be more like the sturdy lamppost in "The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe" that is always there shining so that others might find their way. The Bible tells us that we will be "aliens and strangers in the world" (excerpt from 1 Peter 2:11) and Jesus tells us in John 15:18-25 that the world will hate us just as they hate Him. Are you living for this world or the next?

Remember the old sayings that actions speak louder than words and a picture is worth a thousand words. My greatest witness for Christ are my actions. People SEE Christ through us OR they see a hypocrite. We all make mistakes I'm not stating that we have to be perfect what we have to do is TRY to be perfect. God guides us and tells us what to do and we sometimes stumble and fall but then He picks us up and we try and listen to Him again. We don't look to the left or the right but rather we stay focused on God's guidance which is before us. Refer to Proverbs 4.

Over the weekend I spoke with a man who's belief is that we are overpopulating this planet so abortion is a "good thing". I asked the man how we decide who dies? Should we kill everyone over 50 or maybe anytime a baby is born then one of the parents has to die? It's unfortunate the lengths that some will go to when justifying the murder of our unborn children. Abortion is the tool that allows people to avoid the consequences of their actions. If you are not ready to bring a child into this world then you are not ready to have sexual relations.

Some people are going to choose to do the wrong thing no matter what laws you put in place. But the very reason we have laws is to discourage this activity and to protect people as much as possible. Abortion was argued should be legal because women were having backalley abortions and getting seriously injured or dying. The arguement went that to protect these women we should legalize it so that the operations could be performed in a hospital or somewhere else safe. Unfortunately that is ignoring the fact that what we should do is try and minimize the number of people doing the wrong thing instead of legalizing the wrong thing. Abortion opponents care not only for one half of the situation. In another words let's find ways to save these women without killing the child they carry.

Our country can travel one of two paths. We can continue down the path of degredation; the drugs, loose sexual morals, abortion, lawlessness, etc. Or we can turn back to God. The path of degredation will eventually lead to the failure of the United States. Either from outside forces or through our own changes to the country, i.e. become a police-state. And actually the only way these outside forces can be a threat is through the lack of strength of our country which comes back to the degredation.

The only way to the Father is through the Son and we are saved through faith and faith alone but this does not mean that works are unimportant. Works without Love is meaningless but works with Love should exist. Do you think it pleases Christ when you confess your sins but make no attempt to stop sinning? Paul asked if we should sin just to show the grace of our Lord. His response was "By no means!" and he also stated that even though we live under grace that does not make us exempt from the Law. We are to be light in the darkness, not like the darkness. Our lives will not be perfect but others should see us as different. We should be an odd lot to others. Avoiding the very things they seek to fill their lives with. There is right and wrong not shades of grey.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:17-20. There are those that teach that to speak of the Law is legalism and that we are no longer bound to the Law but Christ's own words betray their teaching as false. Peter also speaks of lawless men in 2 Peter 2:7. Lawless men not graceless men. We receive grace through our faith and without that we will perish but with faith comes obedience.

Some in our country have started to foster the belief that it's someone else's fault that their life is not what they want it to be. The government, society, white men, jews, etc. are suppressing them. Our country was built on those that made their own opportunities. They didn't depend on somone else. The only one that can hold you back is you.

There are racists, sexists, bigots, there are those that are prejudice against people because of all types of reasons. It is not restricted to any race, nationality, gender, national origin, etc. And it is wrong to catergorize people, each person is an individual. That all said, the bigger problem is that we need to learn to be fulfilled with what God provides. We need to trust that He will provide ALL that we need and if we don't have it then we don't need it or at least not now.
