Wednesday, 11/1/06
Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" So the man gave them his
attention, expecting to get something from them.
Acts 3:4-5 NIV
Sometimes Jesus says to us "Look at me!", and we look expecting to get something from Him. The
beggar got something far greater than He was looking for. Jesus IS far greater than anything we can
look for.
Thursday, 11/2/06
A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a
brother.
Proverbs 18:24 NIV
That friend is Jesus Christ.
Friday, 11/3/06
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who
believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Romans 1:16 NIV
Do you openly declare the gospel or are you afraid of what others may think? Jesus died on the cross
as the perfect sacrifice. Can you not endure the mere words of others?
Monday, 11/6/06
Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. Blessed are
they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in
his ways. You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.
Psalm 119:1-4 NIV
Fully obeyed. It does not say that God set down precepts just to show that we could not follow them
or just to show that we need a Savior but that He does expect obedience. We are all sinners and we
do need Jesus but that doesn't mean we are free to do whatever we want.
Tuesday, 11/7/06
Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I
consider all your commands. I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.
I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me.
Psalm 119:5-8 NIV
We pray that we were steadfast in our obedience but God IS steadfast in His promises. Notice also
that prasie is given as the righteous laws are learned!
Wednesday, 11/8/06
How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my
heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not
sin against you. Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.
Psalm 119:9-12 NIV
All true knowledge comes from God. We have lied to ourselves and convinced each other that we have
all kinds of wonderful ideas. That we have the power of knowledge but we only make fools of
ourselves.
Thursday, 11/9/06
With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in
your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
Psalm 119:13-16 NIV
Do not neglect the Word of God. Rejoice in Him. Be glad that He shared with us how to live.
Friday, 11/10/06
Do good to your servant, and I will live; I will obey your word. Open my eyes that I may see
wonderful things in your law. I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. My soul
is consumed with longing for your laws at all times.
Psalm 119:17-20 NIV
We are but strangers to this planet. We are here but for a blink of time. Eternity is waiting for us
and it can be spent in Heaven or in eternal agony seperated from God.
Monday, 11/13/06
You rebuke the arrogant, who are cursed and who stray from your commands. Remove from me scorn and
contempt, for I keep your statutes. Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will
meditate on your decrees. Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.
Psalm 119:21-24 NIV
God's laws are our counselors not man! If someone rebukes you and contradicts scripture then he
slanders God and do not listen to Him. But if Scripture rebukes you then take heed.
Tuesday, 11/14/06
I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word. I recounted my ways and you
answered me; teach me your decrees. Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will
meditate on your wonders. My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
Psalm 119:25-28 NIV
We all struggle. We all face trouble but do you reach out to Jesus to pull you from sinking beneath
the waves?
Wednesday, 11/15/06
Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. I have chosen the way of truth; I
have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, O Lord; do not let me be put to shame.
I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.
Psalm 119:29-32 NIV
When we follow God's commands then we are set free! The law is not a weight on our back but rather
it removes that weight so that we may run the race as God intended.
Thursday, 11/16/06
Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding,
and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for
there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.
Psalm 119:33-36 NIV
Without God's understanding then we merely seek our own gain. But when we receive the Holy Spirit
then we will follow God.
Friday, 11/17/06
Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. Fulfill your
promise to your servant, so that you may be feared. Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws
are good. How I long for your precepts! Preserve my life in your righteousness.
Psalm 119:37-40 NIV
Our life is not preserved upon this earth. We will still die and decay but when accept Jesus as our
Lord then our life will continue in Heaven.
Monday, 11/20/06
May your unfailing love come to me, O Lord, your salvation according to your promise; then I will
answer the one who taunts me, for I trust in your word. Do not snatch the word of truth from my
mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws. I will always obey your law, for ever and ever.
Psalm 119:41-44 NIV
God's love is unfailing. Does this mean that all go to Heaven? Just as loving father must sometimes
discipline a disobedient child, God has prescribed for us the punishment of disobedience and the
means of salvation.
Tuesday, 11/21/06
I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. I will speak of your statutes
before kings and will not be put to shame, for I delight in your commands because I love them. I
lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees.
Psalm 119:45-48 NIV
When we obey the Word then we also share the Word. We speak about it before kings rather than hide
it under a rock.
Wednesday, 11/22/06
Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life. The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your
law. I remember your ancient laws, O Lord, and I find comfort in them.
Psalm 119:49-52 NIV
We will still face suffering but we will find comfort and hope in His promise.
Thursday, 11/23/06
Indignation grips me because of the wicked, who have forsaken your law. Your decrees are the theme
of my song wherever I lodge. In the night I remember your name, O Lord, and I will keep your law.
This has been my practice: I obey your precepts.
Psalm 119:53-56 NIV
The law is the theme of his song.
Friday, 11/24/06
You are my portion, O Lord; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my
heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. I have considered my ways and have turned my
steps to your statutes. I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.
Psalm 119:57-60 NIV
He considered his ways and turned his steps. He had a change in his life. If you claim to be one of
God's, if you speak of accepting Jesus, but you have not become a new creation then a warning flag
should be going up. Change does not always happen immediately but there does have to be change.
Monday, 11/27/06
Though the wicked bind me with ropes, I will not forget your law. At midnight I rise to give you
thanks for your righteous laws. I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts.
The earth is filled with your love, O Lord; teach me your decrees.
Psalm 119:61-64 NIV
The wicked will persecute us but we will not be forgotten by God.
Tuesday, 11/28/06
Do good to your servant according to your word, O Lord. Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I
believe in your commands. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. You are
good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.
Psalm 119:65-68 NIV
The Word says that God will do good to us. Not fame, fortune, or anything else of this world but
rather He will give us the true good that which He prescribed.
Wednesday, 11/29/06
Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart. Their hearts
are callous and unfeeling, but I delight in your law. It was good for me to be afflicted so that I
might learn your decrees. The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of
silver and gold.
Psalm 119:69-72 NIV
The law is more precious than any amount of wealth.
Thursday, 11/30/06
Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands. May those who fear
you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word. I know, O Lord, that your laws
are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me. May your unfailing love be my comfort,
according to your promise to your servant.
Psalm 119:73-76 NIV
God made us and formed us. We are not merely products of chance nor did He merely set wheels in
motion and then step aside and merely watch. No, God is active in His creation!
